Kendreck Murry Jr., Nashville, Tennessee: High-speed I-40 crash overturns garbage truck and kills driver

Kendreck Murry Jr., 26, was killed early Monday when the 2011 Hyundai Genesis he was driving slammed into the back of a Peterbilt garbage truck on Interstate 40 East near Old Hickory Boulevard in Nashville, Tennessee.

The collision happened at about 3:30 a.m. on August 24. Witnesses told police that Murry was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed before the Hyundai struck the rear of the garbage truck.

The crash had immediate consequences. The garbage truck overturned after the impact, while the Hyundai caught fire. Murry died at the scene.

No one else was seriously injured, police said. Investigators are now working to establish what caused the crash and whether anything besides speed played a part.

Police said speed by the Hyundai appears to be a preliminary contributing factor. That finding is part of the early investigation and could change as more evidence is reviewed.

Authorities will also conduct toxicology testing on Murry. The testing is intended to determine whether impairment may have contributed to the collision.

The crash left investigators dealing with a badly damaged vehicle, an overturned garbage truck and a fatality on one of Nashville’s major interstate routes. The early-morning timing also meant the collision happened before the normal rush-hour traffic began.

Murry, who was from Nashville, was 26. Police identified him after the crash as the driver who died in the collision.

For now, investigators have identified speed as the main preliminary factor. They are waiting on toxicology results to determine whether impairment was also involved.

The investigation continues, but authorities have not reported any other serious injuries from the crash.

    Condolences to his family.

  • Kesi Fevrier, Ottawa, Ontario: Police now call her death a femicide as second Ottawa man dies after Quebec crash

Kesi Fevrier’s death in Ottawa has become the center of a homicide investigation after police identified the 27-year-old woman and said her death is being treated as a femicide.

Fevrier was found dead Saturday inside a residence on Guigues Avenue in Ottawa’s Lowertown. Police officers arrived at about 11:09 a.m. after investigators in Quebec sought help from the Ottawa Police Service.

The request came after a disturbing single-vehicle crash on Highway 50 near Papineauville. The crash happened shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday as the vehicle was traveling eastbound. A man inside the vehicle had injuries that appeared suspicious before he was taken to a hospital.

That man later died. Police identified him Monday as Kingsley Nwude, 34, of Ottawa. His death and Fevrier’s death are now being investigated by Ottawa’s homicide unit, although authorities have not publicly detailed the precise link between the two cases.

Fevrier was from Saint Lucia and had recently returned to Ottawa after spending the summer in her home country. She had taken part in Carnival celebrations and attended a wedding before coming back to the city, where she was studying.

Her family and friends described a young woman who was active in her community. Fevrier was involved with the Catholic Church and had auditioned for Miss Universe Saint Lucia. After her death became known, people who knew her posted photographs and personal memories online.

One family member said Fevrier may have gone to the apartment after someone she knew asked her to meet and “talk things over.” The relative said she may have been lured there. That detail has not been confirmed by police, so investigators have not established publicly whether such a meeting took place or what happened before Fevrier was found.

Police have also not released the circumstances surrounding Nwude’s injuries or explained how they may relate to Fevrier’s death. Investigators are continuing to collect evidence and speak with possible witnesses as they work to piece together what happened before the two deaths.

The latest police update says there is no current danger to the public. Still, the investigation has left two communities waiting for answers: Ottawa, where both victims lived, and Saint Lucia, where Fevrier spent part of her final summer surrounded by family, friends and familiar celebrations.

  • Kesi Fevrier, Ottawa, Ontario: 27-year-old Saint Lucian woman found dead as police investigate suspected femicide

Kesi Fevrier, 27, was found dead inside a residence on Guigues Avenue in Ottawa’s Lowertown on Saturday, Aug. 22, turning what began as a police investigation into a suspicious death into a homicide case involving two people.

Ottawa police were called to the residence at about 11:09 a.m. Saturday and found Fevrier dead inside. Her death was initially described as suspicious. By Monday, police had identified her publicly and said her death was being investigated as a femicide.

The case took another turn after police connected the Ottawa investigation to a separate crash in Quebec. Shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday, officers with the Sûreté du Québec responded to a single-vehicle crash on eastbound Highway 50 near Papineauville.

A man found inside the vehicle had injuries that appeared suspicious. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died. Police have identified him as 34-year-old Kingsley Nwude of Ottawa.

Investigators have not publicly explained what caused Nwude’s injuries or how the crash happened. They also have not released details showing exactly how his death may be connected to Fevrier’s death. Both deaths are now being handled by Ottawa’s homicide unit.

Fevrier had returned to Ottawa about 10 days before her death after spending the summer in Saint Lucia. She had attended Carnival celebrations and a wedding during her time there, according to information provided by her family. She was studying in Ottawa.

People who knew Fevrier remembered her as someone who stayed active in her community. She was involved in the Catholic Church and had auditioned for Miss Universe Saint Lucia. After news of her death spread, friends shared photos and memories of her online, including moments from Carnival events.

A family member also said Fevrier may have been asked to meet someone she knew at the apartment so they could “talk things over.” The family member said she may have been lured there, but police have not confirmed that account, and investigators have not publicly said that this was how Fevrier ended up at the residence.

The investigation remains active, with officers gathering evidence and speaking with possible witnesses. Police said Monday that there is no current threat to public safety, while residents in the area may continue to see an increased police presence.

For Fevrier’s family and friends in Ottawa and Saint Lucia, the investigation now carries a painful question: what happened to a 27-year-old woman who had only recently returned to Ottawa from a summer at home? Police have yet to release the full circumstances surrounding her death.

Frenchtown Township, Michigan: Aaron L. Heiss Dies After Head-On Crash on N. Telegraph Road

Aaron L. Heiss, 48, of Flat Rock, Michigan, was killed Monday morning when his Ford Escape crossed the center line on N. Telegraph Road in Frenchtown Township and struck another vehicle head-on, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened around 10:04 a.m. Aug. 24, 2026, northeast of Hurd Road. Investigators said Heiss was driving a gray 2010 Ford Escape southwest on N. Telegraph Road when he went across the center line while negotiating a curve.

His SUV then collided head-on with a red 2026 Cadillac OPTIQ. The impact left Heiss critically injured, and emergency crews responded to the scene. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Heiss was wearing his seat belt when the crash occurred. The airbags in his Ford Escape also deployed, authorities said.

The driver of the Cadillac, John C. Taylor, 83, of Monroe, was seriously injured in the collision. He was taken to Corewell Health Trenton Hospital for treatment.

Investigators said alcohol or drug intoxication was not a factor in the crash. The key question remains why Heiss crossed the center line as he traveled through the curve. Authorities have not said what caused him to lose control, and the investigation remains open.

The crash brought a sudden end to the life of a 48-year-old Flat Rock man and left another driver seriously hurt. For Heiss’ family and friends, the details of the crash offer little relief from the fact that a normal Monday morning ended with a devastating loss.

Authorities have not announced any additional factors that may have contributed to the collision. Investigators will continue working to determine exactly what happened in the moments before the two vehicles collided.

At this point, authorities have not publicly identified a reason for the lane departure. The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation, including what happened as Heiss approached and negotiated the curve.

The collision left two drivers facing very different outcomes from the same violent impact. Taylor survived but suffered serious injuries, while Heiss, a 48-year-old Flat Rock resident, died at the scene.

  • Geraldine Begay, Albuquerque: stabbing charge expected to become murder after Crystal Markum dies

Geraldine Begay, Albuquerque: stabbing charge expected to become murder after Crystal Markum dies

Geraldine Begay, 52, is facing a far more serious case after Crystal Markum, 59, died from injuries suffered in a stabbing at a southeast Albuquerque apartment complex.

Police say the stabbing happened around 2:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at the French Quarter Apartments at 1101 Palomas St. SE. Markum was taken to a local hospital after suffering a stab wound to her shoulder.

Begay was arrested shortly after the attack. At first, she was charged with aggravated battery. That changed after Markum’s condition took a deadly turn.

Albuquerque police said detectives learned Sunday that Markum had died. Because the victim did not survive, authorities said Begay’s charge was expected to be upgraded Monday to an open count of murder.

The case now centers on what happened inside or around the apartment complex before Markum was stabbed. Police have not released a complete account of the events that led to the confrontation.

Markum’s death also changed the nature of the investigation. What was initially a stabbing case involving a woman who was being treated at a hospital became a fatal investigation involving an arrested suspect and a possible murder charge.

The incident happened at the French Quarter Apartments in southeast Albuquerque, putting the apartment complex at the center of the police investigation. Detectives are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the stabbing and Markum’s death.

For Markum’s loved ones, the outcome has been devastating. She was 59 and had been hospitalized after the attack, but she died Sunday from the injuries she suffered two days earlier.

Begay remains at the center of the criminal investigation as authorities prepare for the expected murder charge. The investigation is still ongoing, and police have not said that all details of the case have been established.
