A late-night drive down West Golf Course Road ended in tragedy Sunday when 23-year-old Joe Ezekiel Gonzalez Jr. lost his life in a single-car wreck.
Officers with the Midland Police Department got the call around 10:04 p.m. regarding a bad crash in the 2500 block of West Golf Course Road.

When police arrived, they found a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 wrecked off the roadway. The full-size pickup had been traveling westbound before things went wrong.
Investigators say the truck was going fast when it suddenly drifted off the road. It slammed straight into a tree and then plowed into a fence right after.
Emergency crews found Gonzalez inside the cab, but there was nothing they could do. He was pronounced dead right at the scene.
Police believe both speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. Officers are still investigating to figure out exactly why the truck left the pavement.
Word of the crash spread quickly through town, leaving family and friends grieving a young life cut short. Gonzalez was just 23, with so much ahead of him.
People across the community are holding his loved ones in their thoughts as they deal with the shock. It is a heavy loss for everyone who knew him in West Texas.
