A quiet Saturday night turned into a nightmare on the north side of town, leaving an eighteen-year-old dead and a neighborhood shaken. Julian Norman was shot multiple times outside an apartment building on Dwight Road. By the time officers got to the scene, the young man was barely hanging on.
Calls started coming into dispatch around 8:50 p.m. reporting gunfire in the 2700 block of Dwight Road. Neighbors heard the shots ring out through the complex and immediately called 911. When local police pulled up, they found Norman lying injured with several bullet wounds.

Paramedics worked fast at the scene to stabilize Norman before rushing him down the road to Mercy Health Springfield Regional Medical Center. Doctors and nurses in the emergency room did everything they could to save him. Sadly, his injuries were too severe, and he passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Norman was only eighteen years old, just starting out on his adult life when everything got taken away in an instant. For his family and close friends, the sudden loss has been absolute agony. Those who knew him best are now left holding onto memories of a kid who had his whole future right in front of him.
The news spread fast across Springfield over the weekend, pulling local residents into deep sorrow. Friends have been leaning on each other for support, sharing stories and remembering the good times with Julian. A life cut short like this leaves a deep void that words simply cannot fix.
Detectives from the Springfield Police Division are working the case around the clock to piece together what led up to the violence. Investigators are treating the shooting as an active homicide investigation. They are asking anyone who lives near Dwight Road or heard anything strange Saturday night to speak up.
Local authorities assured neighbors that there is no active threat to the broader community right now. Still, police are urging anyone with information, street footage, or tips to call investigators directly at 937-324-7685 or send an email to spdtip@springfieldohio.gov.
