The late-night quiet in a Wooster neighborhood shattered just before midnight Friday when a heavy pickup truck veered off the road and plowed directly into a residential home, killing an 11-year-old boy resting inside.
Emmet Sauers was inside his family’s house on State Route 302, also known as Madison Avenue, when the vehicle struck. At around 11:50 p.m., the truck left the road, smashing through the outer structure and creating immediate panic as emergency crews rushed to the scene.

Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Wooster Post arrived alongside local police, sheriff deputies, and fire rescue teams. First responders located Emmet inside the damaged residence, but despite emergency efforts, the 11-year-old was pronounced dead right at the scene.
The vehicle involved was a white 2007 Ford F-250. According to preliminary crash investigation reports, the heavy pickup was traveling northwest along Madison Avenue when it drifted off the eastern edge of the roadway and collided with the home.
Neighbors and local residents reported a massive response from emergency personnel along State Route 302 throughout the night. Responders worked under floodlights to secure the damaged building, assess the wreckage, and check on everyone inside the residence.
Multiple regional agencies converged on the neighborhood to manage the emergency scene. Units from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Wooster Police Department, Wooster Township Fire and EMS, and the Wayne County Coroner’s Office were joined by teams from AEP, the American Red Cross, and Rigz Towing.
The investigation into what caused the truck to leave the roadway remains active under the Ohio State Highway Patrol. State troopers have not yet released preliminary findings on vehicle speed or driver impairment as investigators continue gathering physical evidence from the home and truck.
