A Tuesday afternoon in Marathon County ended in tragedy when a single-vehicle motorcycle crash took the life of 60-year-old Allen L. Falkowski. Falkowski, who lived in nearby Marathon, was riding through the village of Hatley when his bike drifted off the road around 4:40 p.m. Emergency crews rushed to the intersection of Clark Street and Curtis Avenue, but they could not save him.

The news of Falkowski’s death moved quickly through central Wisconsin as family and friends learned what happened. Falkowski was 60 years old and lived in Marathon, a small community located just west of Wausau. He was out on his motorcycle on a late summer afternoon when the crash took place.

Hatley Fire and EMS crews were among the first responders on the scene after receiving emergency calls. They worked alongside paramedics from SAFER EMS to deliver emergency care to Falkowski on the roadway. Despite their immediate efforts, Falkowski died from his injuries at the crash site.

Deputies from the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office blocked off the area around Clark Street and Curtis Avenue to examine the scene. The intersection sits in a residential pocket of Hatley, a small village located roughly 20 miles east of Wausau in the Wausau metropolitan area. Officers detoured local traffic while they gathered evidence.

Investigators are still working to determine why Falkowski’s motorcycle left the pavement. Sheriff’s deputies are reviewing the physical evidence at the scene to understand how the bike lost control. Authorities have not yet said if mechanical failure, medical issues, or road conditions contributed to the crash.

The Marathon County Medical Examiner’s Office arrived at the scene shortly after first responders. Medical examiner staff worked with deputies to complete the initial death investigation and process the scene. Officials confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The loss of Falkowski leaves a quiet hole in his hometown of Marathon. Local law enforcement officials continue to ask anyone who was near Curtis Avenue around 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday to share any details that might help explain what happened before the crash.
