A Sunday afternoon ended terribly just outside the town limits of Delta. Brock J. Roark took a 13-year-old out for a quick ride. Neither of them made it back.
The 34-year-old local was driving a 2025 Can-Am Outlander 850 ATV. The Georgia teenager rode along as his passenger. They cruised down Good Hope Delta Road around 5:30 p.m. on August 30.
Then, the heavy machine suddenly went off the shoulder. The four-wheeler slammed straight into a large tree and flipped completely over.
The sheer force of the wreck threw both riders off the ATV. Emergency crews rushed out to the scene near Crutchfield Drive. The dirt road sits roughly seven miles southwest of Delta.
First responders found a bad scene when they arrived. Roark took the worst of the direct impact. Medics did everything they could to revive him.
Their efforts fell short. His injuries were simply too severe to survive. First responders pronounced him dead right there on the grass.
The young child was still fighting for life. Paramedics loaded the 13-year-old into the back of an ambulance and sped toward the nearest hospital. Doctors went to work immediately.
Sadly, the child from Villa Rica passed away later that evening. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has state troopers looking into the crash. They still do not know what made Roark veer off the road.
