A 20-year-old U.S. Marine with his entire military career and life ahead of him was killed early Saturday on an Alabama interstate. Landon Dunn was driving his 2015 Toyota Tacoma down Interstate 85 when a head-on collision took his life before sunrise, shocking his family and fellow service members.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the southbound lanes near Montgomery around 2:15 a.m. Officers found Dunn’s pickup truck wrecked alongside a 2013 Kia Sorento. Montgomery police confirmed that Dunn died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Kia, 26-year-old mother of four Alyshia Rushing, also died in the collision. A female passenger riding in Rushing’s vehicle survived the impact and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Fellow Marines remembered Dunn as a quiet, dedicated service member known for his kind heart and steady presence. Friends who served alongside him expressed disbelief over losing a young man who had built strong bonds within his unit during his time in uniform.

The crash took place on a stretch of Interstate 85 that carries traffic straight through Montgomery. Police officers closed down parts of the highway for hours while investigators marked tire tracks, examined vehicle damage, and worked to clear the wreckage.

Accident investigators have not yet determined what caused the two vehicles to collide head-on in the middle of the night. The Montgomery Police Department stated that the full investigation remains open as crash reconstruction specialists gather evidence.

Dunn’s family and military comrades are now preparing to honor a life cut short at 20. As the official inquiry into the wreck continues, those who served with Dunn are leaning on each other to process the loss of a fellow Marine who left a lasting impression on everyone around him.
