A block in south-central Kansas became the center of a major state investigation after a couple carried out a planned murder-suicide inside their home. Investigators in Winfield, Kansas revealed that the parents worked together for months on a scheme that ended six lives. State police confirmed the deaths of the parents and their four young kids on West Ninth Avenue.
Officers responded to the 400 block of West Ninth Avenue on Tuesday, August 11, after receiving reports concerning the residence. Upon entering the house, emergency responders discovered six people dead from gunshot wounds. The deceased included 53-year-old Ronald Williams Sr., 44-year-old Kelly L. George, and their four children.

State agents from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation took over the case and started gathering physical evidence inside the home. Their initial findings showed that Williams and George shared a calculated plan to kill all four children before turning the weapon on themselves. Police noted that there was no altercation or fight immediately before the gunshots were fired.
Paperwork uncovered by state agents showed that George purchased a Taurus .38 Special revolver in February 2025. That same revolver was found on the floor near the bodies when officers first walked into the home. Authorities believe that single firearm was the weapon used during the incident.
The four young victims of the shooting were Carol, age 9, Ronald Jr., age 7, Sarah, age 5, and Kelly, age 3. State investigators emphasized that no evidence points to any outside individual being involved in the shootings. The parents acted entirely on their own inside the residence.
Before the shooting happened, the couple showed a pattern of strange and erratic behavior across the community. Local residents, neighbors, and Winfield police officers recalled several instances where Williams and George made nonsensical statements. These odd encounters raised eyebrows, but the full picture only came to light after officers entered the home.
KBI agents are currently wrapping up their fieldwork and examining all remaining physical evidence collected from the site. Once state investigators finish constructing a final timeline of the parents’ actions, the agency will submit the full case file to the Cowley County Attorney’s Office.
