A Thursday night in Wilson turned deadly when 45-year-old Terrance Lucas was shot and left lying in the roadway. Dispatchers first got a call about gunshots ringing out around 9:15 p.m. Near the corner of Manchester Street and Suggs Street, someone saw a man down in the street and called it in.
Officers rushed to the 500 block of Manchester Street. When they arrived, they found Lucas bleeding on the pavement from a gunshot wound. Emergency crews loaded him into an ambulance to head toward Wilson Medical Center.

Lucas never made it to the hospital room. Paramedics worked on him during the drive, but he died from his injuries before they arrived. His death marked another tragic night for the local community in Wilson County.
Police did not have to wait long to identify a suspect in the killing. Investigators locked onto 40-year-old Shannon Davis as the man behind the trigger. Officers took Davis into custody shortly after the shooting.
Authorities charged Davis with first-degree murder. They took him straight to the Wilson County Jail. A magistrate ordered him held with no bond, keeping him behind bars while the case moves forward.
What led to the gunfire remains a complete mystery to neighbors and investigators alike. Police have not shared any possible motive for the shooting. It is still unclear whether Lucas and Davis were strangers or if they had known each other before that night.
The investigation stays open as detectives work to piece together the final minutes of Lucas’s life. Wilson sits about 45 miles east of Raleigh and 30 miles west of Greenville. Police are asking anyone with details to call the department at 252-399-2323 or contact Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.
