A quiet Wednesday afternoon in a central Oklahoma suburb turned into a crime scene after an 11-year-old girl dialed her mother with a frantic message. She claimed an outsider had just shot her 15-year-old brother inside their home. By the end of the night, detectives came to a very different conclusion.
Officers rushed to the house on the 1100 block of Lapwing Road, near Danforth Road and Santa Fe Avenue, shortly after 4 p.m. Inside, they found the 15-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigators immediately started putting together a timeline of what happened while the siblings were left alone. The children’s mother told police she was away from the house when the shooting occurred. She said her young daughter called her in panic, insisting that someone else had walked in and shot her son.
Police quickly began interviewing neighbors and looking for evidence of an intruder around the neighborhood. Nothing in the immediate evidence pointed to an outside suspect entering the home. The story provided during the initial emergency call began to fall apart as detectives worked through the night.
Around 1 a.m. Thursday, police placed the 11-year-old sister under arrest. Authorities transported her directly to a local juvenile facility, where she was booked on a complaint of second-degree murder.
Edmond police have kept tight-lipped about the specifics of the shooting. They have not released any details about the gun used, who owned it, or how the young girl got her hands on it. Officials also have not shared what exact argument or event happened between the two children right before the trigger was pulled.
Because both children are minors, authorities are legally withholding their names and personal records. The Edmond Police Department described the shooting as an isolated incident and noted that the case will move forward entirely through the juvenile justice system.
