Mark Allen Bowling Jr. was far from home when his ride through South Carolina ended on Saturday night. The 37-year-old Maryland resident was riding his 2005 Harley-Davidson south down White Horse Road in Greenville County around 9:50 p.m. He was traveling through the dark stretch of highway near North Davis Drive when a northbound car turned directly across his lane.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene right after the crash was reported. They found Bowling with severe injuries in the roadway next to his damaged motorcycle. Responders worked to save him, but his injuries were too heavy. Medics pronounced the 37-year-old dead at the scene before he could be transported to a hospital.

Bowling had spent 37 years building a life filled with family, friends, and everyday memories back in Maryland. Those close to him knew him as a down-to-earth guy who loved riding on the open road and making people around him laugh. A sudden highway crash took him away in seconds, leaving his family back home scrambling to cope with the sudden loss.
Investigators say Bowling was riding straight along US 25 when an oncoming 2011 Toyota Camry made a sudden left turn onto North Davis Drive. The driver of the sedan attempted to clear the lane, but pulled directly into Bowling’s path. Bowling had no room to brake or maneuver his Harley out of the way.
The crash hit hard for Bowling’s family and friends back home in Maryland. Loved ones woke up Sunday morning to the painful reality that Mark was gone. Phone calls and messages quickly went around among those who knew him best, sharing memories of his humor and the good times they shared together over the years.
Highway patrol troopers closed down parts of White Horse Road for several hours Saturday night while they mapped out the crash site and cleared the vehicles. Small pieces of glass and plastic lay near the shoulder on Sunday morning, marking the spot where the collision occurred just hours earlier.
For Bowling’s family, the focus now turns to bringing him home to Maryland and laying him to rest. They are left holding onto memories of a son and friend whose life ended unexpectedly on a South Carolina highway. The loss leaves a heavy silence among everyone who knew him best.
