An 11-year-old boy named Emmet Sauers was killed late Friday night when a heavy pickup truck veered off the road and smashed directly into his family home. The crash happened around 11:50 p.m. along Madison Avenue, leaving a quiet neighborhood in complete shock. Emmet was inside the house at the time of impact and died before emergency workers could save him.

It was supposed to be a normal Friday night heading into the weekend for the Sauers family. Emmet was inside the home resting when the vehicle struck the outer wall. Emergency crews rushed to the scene after getting frantic calls from neighbors and family members, but there was nothing medics could do for the young boy.

Investigators from the Ohio State Highway Patrol say the vehicle involved was a white 2007 Ford F-250 pickup. The heavy truck was traveling northwest along State Route 302, local street name Madison Avenue, when it suddenly left the right side of the pavement. The truck plowed across the yard and went straight into the structure.

The driver of the truck, 18-year-old Karas M. Wedge of Seville, survived the crash with minor injuries. Paramedics treated her at the scene before taking her to Wooster Community Hospital. Authorities have not said whether speed, distraction, or mechanical trouble caused her to lose control of the truck.

First responders from several local departments arrived within minutes of the crash. Firefighters, police officers, deputies from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, and utility crews worked together in the dark to secure the damaged home. Power lines in the area had to be checked while troopers documented the crash site.

News of Emmet’s death spread quickly through the local community over the weekend. Emmet was a student in the Triway Local School District, where classmates and teachers are struggling to make sense of the sudden loss. Local sports teams and neighboring school districts have planned to wear purple early this week to show support for the Sauers family.

State troopers from the Wooster Highway Patrol Post remain on the case, working to piece together exactly what went wrong in the moments leading up to the crash. No criminal charges have been filed yet while the investigation continues. For now, a small Ohio community is left mourning an 11-year-old boy whose life ended inside the one place he was supposed to be safe.
