Friday morning was supposed to be a normal drive for 42-year-old Cortland resident Heather M. Robinson. Riding her 2006 Suzuki GSX-R1000 down State Route 46 in Bazetta Township, she had no warning that two full-sized horses were about to step right into her path in the dark.

The collision happened fast on the two-lane stretch of highway. Robinson hit one of the horses, taking the full brunt of the force. The impact threw her off the motorcycle onto the asphalt before anyone could rush to help.

Paramedics and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers pulled up minutes later, but there was nothing they could do. Robinson suffered fatal injuries right there on the road and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Living just up the road in Cortland, Robinson was well known in her local community. Friends and neighbors knew her as someone who loved riding on open roads, making her sudden death feel heavy for those close to her.

News of the wreck spread quickly through Trumbull County by mid-morning. People across Cortland and Bazetta struggled to make sense of how a routine trip on a familiar road turned fatal in an instant.

State troopers spent hours working the crash site, measuring skid marks and closing off that section of State Route 46 to piece together the timeline. Investigators are focusing on how the horses escaped their enclosure and wandered onto the highway.

For the family and friends Heather left behind, the quiet on State Route 46 offers no easy answers. A simple ride down a local road ended in tragedy, leaving a small Ohio town grieving a life cut far too short.
