A late-night argument at a home in Tooele turned fatal on Monday, August 31, 2026, leaving four young children without their mother. Police say 37-year-old Silvia Bahena was shot to death inside her garage on the 600 block of Kings Landing Road.
Investigators say the violent attack started when Bahena’s boyfriend, Daniel Ruesga, intentionally rammed his heavy Toyota Tundra pickup into the back of her white Tesla. The sudden crash rattled the home right inside the garage space.

Moments after the collision, Ruesga walked up to the damaged car where Bahena sat trapped. Police allege he pulled a handgun and fired multiple shots straight through the driver’s side door, hitting her repeatedly.
Bahena’s four children were inside the house when the violent outburst happened. The kids heard the full shouting match from their rooms, followed by the crunch of crashing metal and the blast of gunfire.
When the noise stopped, the frightened children walked into the garage to see what happened. They discovered their mother lifeless in the driver’s seat and immediately alerted authorities.
Officers arrived at the residence just before midnight to find spent bullet casings scattered across the garage floor. Police took Ruesga into custody at the scene, where he admitted to smashing his truck into the Tesla and shooting Bahena after their fight.
Ruesga now sits in the Tooele County Jail facing charges of first-degree murder and four counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child. Court records show he was previously put on probation for destroying property, leaving loved ones to grapple with a tragic end that tore a family apart.
