Lukas Peter Sprauer died Friday, September 4, 2026, after a motorcycle crash in Los Angeles, California. He was 25 years old. Known to family and friends as Luke, he grew up in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, before moving west to California. His sudden death leaves a deep void for his parents, siblings, and high school community back home.
Luke spent his childhood in Monmouth County. He attended Shrewsbury Borough School and went on to Red Bank Regional High School. During those high school years, he played on the school basketball team. He loved the game, but he loved the bonds with his teammates even more.

Family was the main focus of Luke’s life. He stayed very close with his parents, Michele and Scott Sprauer, and his siblings, Ben and Aly. Family trips were always important to him. He loved trips where he could relax, laugh, and catch up with his parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Luke had simple, everyday hobbies that kept him active and sharp. He liked sitting down for a quiet game of chess. He also enjoyed going to the gym for a good workout. In the kitchen, he liked to cook meals for the people around him.
While living in California, Luke developed a strong passion for working with animals. He spent a lot of his time working directly with dogs. Friends noted how patient and calm he was around animals. That gentle touch was a big part of who he was.
Luke was preceded in death by his grandparents Lou and Jackie Sprauer, and Richard and JoAnn Kontir, as well as his uncle Roger Turner. He is survived by his parents Michele and Scott, his brother Ben, his sister Aly, seven aunts and uncles, and eleven cousins: Ryan, Kyle, Justin, Jacquelyn, Emma, Keller, Tucker, Wyatt, Tanner, Max, and Lucy.
A memorial service for Luke takes place on Saturday, October 3, 2026. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue in Red Bank, New Jersey. A prayer service and eulogy start immediately after at 1:30 p.m.
The service gives friends and family a chance to gather, share memories, and support each other. Luke died far too young, but his quick humor, kindness, and loyalty stay with everyone who knew him.
