A routine Wednesday morning drive through rural East Tennessee ended in tragedy for a young local man. Isaac Self was only 24 years old when his truck drifted off the road, setting off a chain of events that cost him his life.
The crash happened late in the morning along Highway 360, a quiet two-lane stretch that winds through the countryside near Bill Moser Road. It was roughly 11:28 a.m. when neighboring drivers noticed something went wrong.

Self was behind the wheel of a Ford F-150, heading north on the highway. For reasons state troopers are still looking into, his pickup veered off the right side of the pavement and onto the grassy shoulder.
Before Self could pull the truck back onto the asphalt, the vehicle struck a roadside tree. The hard impact sent the pickup sliding down a steep embankment right next to the roadway.
The momentum carried the truck straight toward a nearby body of water. When the vehicle finally stopped, it rested on its left driver-side inside the lake, partially submerged.
Local emergency crews and rescue squads rushed to the 2900 block of Highway 360 after getting reports of an entrapped driver. Rescuers worked quickly at the water’s edge, but Self died from his injuries at the scene.
A preliminary crash report noted that Self was wearing his seatbelt when the accident occurred. Friends and family in the close-knit Monroe County community are now left grieving a young life cut short.
