Tuesday afternoon turned into a nightmare on Aberdeen Road. Six-year-old Jenna Menias was right outside her family house when a school bus hit her. It happened around 3:30 p.m. on a quiet residential block in Frankfort.

Frankfort police officers rushed to the 500 block after getting urgent emergency calls. They found the young girl lying on the road. She was completely unresponsive and suffered severe injuries from the heavy impact.

Witnesses and first responders jumped in right away to try to save her life. Officers and bystanders performed CPR directly on the street before paramedics arrived. They loaded her into an ambulance and brought her to a local hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead shortly after.

Jenna attended elementary school in Frankfort School District 157-C. News of her death spread quickly across the neighborhood, leaving nearby families shocked. Friends and neighbors gathered along Aberdeen Road while police taped off the crash site.

The school bus involved was operated by Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210. It was transporting young students from District 157-C back home from school. Multiple kids were on board when the collision occurred.

Paramedics checked every child inside the bus right at the scene. None of the student passengers suffered physical injuries during the crash. Emergency crews held the kids safely until their parents arrived to pick them up.

Local police and the Will County Sheriff’s Office are examining what went wrong on the street. School leaders brought in social workers and counselors to talk with grieving classmates and staff. Frankfort Mayor Keith Ogle asked residents to keep Jenna’s parents and family in their thoughts.
