A Tuesday afternoon drive along State Route 152 turned tragic for a local Jefferson County resident. James A. Clark, a 70-year-old man from Toronto, Ohio, died following a single-vehicle accident along the rural stretch of highway. Emergency crews arrived shortly after witnesses called in the wreck, but Clark passed away at the scene.
Clark was heading north on State Route 152 when his vehicle drifted off the right side of the roadway. According to initial reports from responders, the car lost traction on the shoulder before veering further off course. The sudden shift left little room for correction on the narrow road.

As the vehicle left the pavement, it went out of control and flipped over in the roadside ditch. The rollover sent the car tumbling directly into a large tree along the embankment. The violent impact came to a rest against the trunk, causing severe driver-side damage.
Passersby and nearby residents heard the crash and immediately dialed 911 to report an overturned vehicle off Route 152. First responders rushed to the rural area north of town within minutes. Emergency medical technicians assessed Clark right at the wreckage, attempting critical life-saving measures.
Despite the fast response from local paramedics, Clark could not be revived due to the extent of his injuries. The Jefferson County coroner was called to the scene shortly after medical personnel confirmed he had died. Officials shut down that portion of State Route 152 while emergency crews cleared the debris.
Friends and neighbors in Toronto remember Clark as a long-time member of the local community. Living in Jefferson County for seven decades, he was a familiar face around the small East Ohio town. News of his sudden death hit the close-knit neighborhood hard as folks learned what happened on the highway.
Local authorities finished clearing the wreckage later that afternoon, opening State Route 152 back up to daily traffic. Family members were notified shortly after officials confirmed Clark’s identity at the crash site. Investigations into what caused his vehicle to leave the road remain ongoing.
