Nick Rojo, president and co-founder of Affiliated Development, passed away following a fatal aviation accident that shocked the local real estate community. Folks across South Florida are coming to terms with losing a local leader who spent years building up the area. His sudden death leaves a deep void in the local business scene and among those who worked by his side.
Rojo was born and raised right here in South Florida. He started his career in investment banking, learning the ins and outs of finance before bringing those skills back home. He quickly shifted his focus to property acquisition, driven by a goal to make a real difference in neighborhood housing.
That drive paid off when he teamed up with Jeff Burns. Together, they built Affiliated Development into a major regional firm, expanding its work across Florida. Over his 16-plus years in commercial real estate, Rojo handled site acquisitions, project financing, and full-scale construction.
His work focused heavily on creating housing for everyday families. Through public-private partnerships, Rojo led developments that created over 2,000 apartment units. He concentrated on mixed-use and multifamily properties designed to expand living options throughout South Florida communities.
Working in real estate was only one part of his daily life. Rojo believed in staying active in the community where he grew up. He served on the Broward County Sheriff’s advisory council, offering input on public safety and community relations.
He also sat on the board of the West Palm Beach Police Athletic League. In that role, he worked directly to support local youth programs and keep safe spaces open for young people in the area.
Word of the aviation crash spread quickly through business circles, leaving colleagues and long-time friends grieving the loss. Official details regarding the cause of the accident remain unavailable, and memorial arrangements have not yet been announced by the family.
As friends and family navigate the sudden loss, Rojo’s housing projects across South Florida stand as his lasting contribution to the region. Local partners continue to share condolences and support for his family and team.
