What started as a quiet Monday evening turned into a nightmare for two local families. Late at night, gunfire broke out at an apartment complex on Hogansville Road. When the shooting stopped, two young men were dead and a teenager was injured. The peace of a small neighborhood was shattered in seconds.
Callers dialed 911 around 9:40 p.m. to report shots fired. Police officers rushed to 1235 Hogansville Road and found Drevion Brewer lying outside on the ground. He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound. Paramedics checked him right away, but Brewer died right there on the scene.
Officers quickly realized the gunfire came from inside Apartment 922. They went inside the apartment to search for other people. That is where they found Amarious Williams. He had been shot several times and was bleeding badly on the floor.
First responders loaded Williams into an ambulance and drove him to a local hospital. Doctors worked to save his life, but his injuries were too severe. Williams died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
While clearing the area around the apartment, officers found a third victim. A teenager was sitting nearby with a gunshot wound to the leg. Emergency crews took the juvenile to the hospital for treatment. Medical staff reported that the injury was not life-threatening.
Loved ones and neighbors gathered outside the complex as police taped off the crime scene. People who knew Brewer and Williams stood in shock, trying to understand how a normal night ended in so much bloodshed. Neighbors said the two young men were deeply cared for by their friends and family.
Investigators arrested Joshua Preston a short time later in connection with the shooting. Police charged Preston with two counts of malice murder, aggravated assault, and weapon charges. As the town grieves Brewer and Williams, police continue to piece together what happened inside that room.
