Ashley Monique, Aiken, SC: Honda Civic Bursts Into Flames After Hitting Tree on Monetta Street

Monetta Street was quiet late Monday night until a violent car crash shook the neighborhood.

Ashley Monique was driving northbound along the 400 block of Monetta Street in a Honda Civic.

Without warning, the vehicle drifted off the right side of the pavement and struck a tree off the shoulder.

The impact immediately set the compact car on fire, filling the street with smoke and flames.

First responders rushed to the scene after nearby residents called 911 to report the burning vehicle.

Emergency workers were unable to save Ashley Monique, and the Aiken County Coroner’s Office pronounced her dead at the scene.

A passenger traveling in the car survived the crash but suffered injuries during the collision.

Paramedics treated the passenger at the scene before transporting them to a local hospital for further care.
