Folks up in Norway House, Manitoba are trying to make sense of a tough loss today. Lance Cordell passed away recently, and the news hit this northern community pretty hard. He was a guy who meant a lot to the people around here, especially the young kids he coached on the ice.

Around these parts, hockey is more than just a game you play on weekends. It is the heart of the winter, bringing families together when the nights get long and cold. Lance spent years standing on the cold side of the rink, shouting encouragement and teaching local kids how to skate and work together.

Because of that work with Norway House Minor Hockey, almost everyone in town knew his face. He was not just calling plays or running drills during practice. To a lot of youth in the community, he was a steady presence and somebody they could look up to every single week.

Right now, the official notices from Turtle Island Funeral Home do not say what caused his death. His family and close friends are keeping those details private while they focus on saying goodbye. But even without those answers, the whole town is getting ready to stand alongside his family.

The community gatherings start on Friday, September 11, 2026. A two-night wake will open up at 5 p.m. inside the Kinosao Sipi Multiplex Auditorium. People will gather there to sit together, share stories about Lance, and keep vigil through the weekend.

On Sunday, September 13, 2026, the final funeral services will take place at the same auditorium. Doors open for the public to pay their final respects from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. After that, the family will have a private hour together before Pastor Ed Lytle leads the church service at 2 p.m.

Once the service wraps up, Lance will be cremated. People across Norway House are holding onto each other right now, knowing that while the games will go on, the rink will feel a little quieter without Coach Lance on the bench.
