A weekend gathering ended in gunfire early Sunday morning, taking the life of 22-year-old Zirovick Depina. Depina had traveled from Brockton to join friends at a home on Weir Street, near Sumner Street, for a late-night party in the backyard.

Depina was one of eight young adults hit when shots erupted around 12:35 a.m. Paramedics rushed all eight victims to nearby hospitals, but medical staff pronounced Depina dead shortly after he arrived.

Depina was a young man from Brockton with his entire life ahead of him. He was just 22 years old and spent his Saturday night enjoying music and conversation with people his age.

The sudden violence cut short those future plans in an instant. What started as an ordinary weekend hangout turned into a chaotic scene as partygoers scrambled for cover when the shooting started.

Seven other people survived the gunfire. Local medical teams reported that one victim remains in serious but stable condition, while six others suffered injuries that doctors described as non-life-threatening.

Community members in both Brockton and Taunton spent the rest of the day sharing memories of Depina. Neighbors along Weir Street stood outside their homes on Sunday morning, looking at yellow police tape where young people had been hanging out hours earlier.

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn confirmed the homicide investigation is ongoing. For Depina’s family, the search for answers is just beginning as local and state police work to figure out who pulled the trigger.
