Folks in Hephzibah, Georgia, are mourning the loss of Arthur Marshall. The local football legend passed away at age 57 in Sarasota, Florida. He was a beloved figure who made a lasting name for himself on and off the field.

Marshall built his reputation early in his hometown. He graduated from Hephzibah High School with the Class of 1987. Back then, everyone around town knew him as one of the best high school athletes to ever wear the school jersey.

After high school, he stayed in-state to play college football for the University of Georgia Bulldogs. His time in Athens set the stage for a professional football career in the NFL, where he played for both the Denver Broncos and the New York Giants.

While playing wide receiver in the NFL, Marshall made league history with a play fans still talk about today. He holds a rare record for throwing the longest pass by a non-quarterback. That trick play was an 81-yard touchdown strike to Denver receiver Cedric Tillman during a big game against the Dallas Cowboys.

After hanging up his football pads, Marshall transitioned into a second career down south. He spent his recent years working in the Florida real estate market. People close to him knew he brought the same strong work ethic to property deals that he did to the gridiron.

Those close to his family shared that Marshall had been fighting a tough battle against stomach cancer leading up to his death. His passing has brought a wave of sadness to his family, former teammates, and football fans across the country.

People remember him as a gifted athlete who brought sheer joy to everyone watching him play. Funeral arrangements have not been made public yet, but his memory remains strong back home in Georgia and throughout the football community.
