A regular left turn set off a chain reaction that left a New York man dead. Daniel Holleran tried to turn across a busy morning road. He cut off an oncoming car, forcing a wild dodge that ended in a deadly head-on crash.
The crash happened on Delaware Avenue right near Fisher Boulevard. It was a Monday morning, August 24, and the roads were getting busy. Holleran, a 71-year-old visiting from Holland, Pennsylvania, was driving through the local traffic. He moved his car out to make a left turn.
Kevin Hynes was heading west in his own lane at that exact moment. The 62-year-old from Wynantskill suddenly saw Holleran’s car blocking his path. Police investigators confirmed Holleran did not have the right to go yet. He pulled out right as Hynes reached the cross street.
Hynes acted on pure instinct to avoid a side crash. He aggressively steered away from Holleran’s car. He managed to dodge the Pennsylvania driver, but he lost control of his own path. His car drifted across the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic.
The eastbound lane was not clear. Christopher Hadsell, a 48-year-old driver from East Berne, was heading straight toward him. Hynes and his car crashed head-on with Hadsell’s vehicle. The impact crushed both front ends.
First responders shut down Delaware Avenue for hours. They rushed Hynes to the local trauma center. He fought for his life in a hospital bed for almost a week. Unfortunately, his body could not heal, and he passed away a few days later.
The accident left the community in shock. Cars pass through that exact spot on Delaware Avenue every single day. The sudden loss of life reminds everyone how fast a normal drive can turn into a nightmare. Hynes was simply running a morning errand.
Investigators closed the book on the cause of the wreck. They found no signs of drugs or alcohol in anyone’s system. Police handed Holleran a traffic ticket for failing to yield. It is a simple piece of paper for a mistake that ended up costing another man his life.
