Crash reconstruction troopers are finalizing the details of a weekend traffic collision that claimed two lives near Robin Hood Road. The late-morning incident involved three eastbound vehicles along Whitesville Road, a busy local route running just outside Delmar.
Around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, 36-year-old Hilary Brooks was operating a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle with 11-year-old Mia Brooks riding as a passenger. Both were traveling behind a Dodge Dakota pickup truck and a Ford F-650 rollback flatbed truck as traffic moved along the two-lane road.
Preliminary findings from the Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit indicate that the motorcycle moved past the Dodge Dakota in a double-yellow no-passing zone. As the motorcycle accelerated forward, the Ford flatbed truck ahead began executing a left turn into a private driveway.
The motorcycle slammed into the driver’s side of the turning flatbed truck, throwing both Hilary and Mia off the bike. State troopers arrived to find Mia dead at the scene, while emergency medical personnel rushed Hilary to an area hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The 19-year-old Laurel man driving the Ford rollback truck did not suffer any injuries. Police kept Whitesville Road closed to all traffic for about four hours while investigators measured skid marks and mapped out the exact collision path.
State police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or captured dashcam video on Whitesville Road around 11:30 a.m. Saturday to contact Sergeant A. Mitchell or submit a tip through Delaware Crime Stoppers. Investigators are reviewing all available statements and evidence before completing their report.
The collision leaves a heavy shadow over the Delmar community as residents offer comfort to the grieving family. Neighbors continue to share stories and offer support, keeping the memory of Hilary and Mia close during a devastating time.
