A 36-year-old woman from Boyers died Thursday afternoon when the SUV she was riding in drifted into oncoming traffic along Eau Claire Road and hit a pickup truck head-on.
State police identified the victim as Amanda E. Montgomery. She was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the crash occurred near the 318 block of Eau Claire Road in Venango Township.
Investigators say the crash happened around 3:54 p.m. as a GMC Acadia traveled westbound. For reasons troopers are still trying to figure out, the vehicle crossed over the center line and slammed into an eastbound Ford F-150 XLT.
Montgomery was riding in the passenger seat of the Acadia at the time of the collision. According to state police reports, she was not wearing a seat belt when the crash took place.
A 17-year-old girl from Boyers was driving the Acadia. She suffered serious injuries in the wreck and had to be airlifted by an AHN LifeFlight helicopter directly to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
The pickup truck was driven by 50-year-old Rebecca L. Rodgers of Slippery Rock. Rodgers and a 3-year-old boy riding in a child safety seat inside her truck were taken by ground ambulance to AHN Grove City Hospital for treatment.
Emergency crews from Eau Claire and Emlenton fire departments worked the scene alongside local ambulance units and the Butler County Coroner’s Office. Pennsylvania State Police are continuing their investigation into what led up to the fatal drift across the yellow line.
