A head-on collision on US 20 in Saybrook Township took the life of 72-year-old Ronald Wright on August 27, 2026. The Geneva resident died at the scene after another vehicle crossed into his lane during early afternoon traffic.

Wright was driving his 1959 Chevrolet Apache pickup westbound along the highway. Investigators say he was heading in his normal lane when the crash happened without warning.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, an eastbound 2016 Jeep Patriot crossed over the center line. The Jeep collided directly with Wright’s truck in the westbound lane.

First responders rushed to the scene shortly after the crash was reported. Emergency medical personnel evaluated Wright, but he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead right at the site.

The driver of the Jeep was identified as 49-year-old Wendy Tobin of Williamsfield. She suffered serious, life-threatening injuries in the wreck.

Crews transported Tobin by ambulance to University Hospitals Geneva Medical Center. Due to the severity of her condition, medical staff arranged for an emergency flight to take her to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

Several local agencies assisted state troopers at the crash site. The Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office, Saybrook Township Fire and EMS, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and the Ashtabula County Coroner’s Office all worked together to manage the scene and investigate the incident.
