Monday evening ride turned fatal for a local law enforcement officer when a deer crossed his path on a quiet Stevens County road.

Aaron W. Davis, a 39-year-old officer with the Colville Police Department, was riding his motorcycle south on Kitt-Narcisse Road on August 24.

As Davis rounded a curve about nine miles east of Colville, his motorcycle struck a deer standing directly in the roadway.

The impact sent the motorcycle off the paved lane and down a deep roadside ditch.
Davis was thrown from his bike during the crash and landed against a fence along the edge of the property.

Deputies from the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene shortly after the crash was reported.

First responders located Davis, but he had suffered fatal injuries despite wearing a protective helmet.

Deputies pronounced the officer dead at the scene, and state troopers took over the crash investigation.

The Washington State Patrol is working to piece together the exact timeline of the crash along Kitt-Narcisse Road.
