A midnight emergency call turned into a fatal scene on Koffman Drive early Wednesday morning, leaving a local neighborhood shaken and a family without 42-year-old Miguel Finch. Police arrived at the 100 block of Koffman Drive just before three o’clock after calls came in reporting gunshots. What officers found when they pulled up was a man critically injured and fighting for his life right outside the Ravenwood Apartments.
The shooting took place around 2:58 a.m. in the middle of a quiet residential patch of Hopkinsville. Dispatchers routed emergency units to the scene immediately, where first responders found Finch suffering from a single gunshot wound to his chest. Fire and EMS crews jumped into action on the spot, trying to stabilize him before loading him into an ambulance.

Paramedics performed continuous CPR on Finch as the ambulance rushed down local streets toward Jennie Stuart Medical Center. Emergency room staff took over care as soon as the doors opened, working hard to save him. Despite every effort by medical workers, Finch could not be revived and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Word of Finch’s death spread quickly through Hopkinsville as daylight broke. Friends, neighbors, and relatives gathered to process the sudden loss of a man who was a familiar face around town. For those close to him, the sudden violence on a familiar neighborhood street made the news almost impossible to absorb.
Finch was known by those around him as a grounded presence who stayed connected to his roots in Christian County. He spent his days surrounded by family and long-time friends who knew him well beyond the headlines of a crime report. His sudden death has left a painful silence in the lives of the people who saw him every day.
As the sun came up, police officers taped off sections of the apartment complex to search for shell casings and talk with neighbors who might have heard something overnight.
Investigators are looking at every potential angle to figure out what led up to the gunfire. As of Wednesday afternoon, no suspect has been taken into custody, and no arrests have been made.
