Alyshia Rushing, 26, was killed early Saturday when the SUV she was driving collided head-on with a pickup truck on Interstate 85 in Montgomery, Alabama. The crash also killed 20-year-old Landon Dunn, the driver of the other vehicle.

The collision happened shortly after 2 a.m. on Aug. 22 between the Taylor Road and Chantilly Parkway exits. According to a preliminary crash report obtained by WSFA, Rushing was driving a 2013 Kia Sorento northbound in the southbound lanes of I-85 when it struck Dunn’s 2015 Toyota Tacoma. The report describes the impact as a head-on collision.

Both drivers suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger who was traveling with Rushing survived the crash and was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Rushing was known to hundreds of thousands of people online as “Mama-A.” The Tuskegee resident had nearly 540,000 followers on TikTok, where she regularly shared parts of her life as a mother. She was also a mother of four children.

Her sudden death has left her family facing the loss of a young mother who had built a large audience by sharing everyday moments from her life. A fundraiser has since been created to help her family as they deal with the loss and the care of her children.

Dunn, who was from Greenville, was serving as a U.S. Marine. A fundraiser created for his family described the effect of his death on his relatives, friends and fellow Marines. His death added another layer of grief to a crash that claimed two young lives within seconds.

The preliminary report gives investigators a clearer picture of how the crash happened, but it does not explain why Rushing’s SUV was traveling in the wrong direction. The report also does not state how fast either vehicle was moving. Toxicology and autopsy testing for both drivers was still pending, according to the report.

For now, the crash remains under investigation by Montgomery police. What is already clear is that a late-night drive on I-85 ended with two families losing people who were only 26 and 20 years old. Rushing was remembered as a mother and content creator, while Dunn was remembered by those close to him as a young Marine whose life was cut short far too soon.
