James Kelsey Combs was riding a motorcycle Sunday night when a collision with a car at a Greer, South Carolina, intersection left him badly injured and later claimed his life.
The crash was reported shortly after 8 p.m. at West Wade Hampton Boulevard and Hillcrest Drive. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office said the motorcycle and car collided at the intersection.

Combs, 33, was taken to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital after the crash. His injuries were serious, and despite treatment, he died at about 9:17 p.m.
The victim was identified as James Kelsey Combs of Taylors. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office said he died from blunt force injuries sustained in the collision.
His death was ruled accidental. Authorities have not said that criminal charges are expected, and the initial reports did not provide details suggesting that the crash involved anything beyond the collision itself.
An external examination was scheduled for Monday. Investigators were still working to establish the full circumstances of the crash and determine exactly what happened at the intersection before the motorcycle and car collided.
The investigation is being handled by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office and Greer City Police. Officials have not released additional details about the other vehicle or its driver.
The crash left investigators with several questions that remained unanswered in the initial report. What caused the two vehicles to collide and what happened in the moments before impact were still under investigation.
What is known is that Combs suffered fatal injuries in the crash and died at the hospital less than two hours after the collision. He was 33 years old and lived in Taylors.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident as they work to establish the complete sequence of events.
