Bridget Reagan was driving westbound along U.S. Route 30 on a calm Saturday late afternoon. She was behind the wheel of a 2023 Jeep Wagoneer, heading through Paris Township in Stark County. Around 5:24 p.m., her drive ended in a split second near milepost 28 when a large tree gave way in the woods lining the north side of the highway.
The heavy timber fell straight into the path of traffic, hitting Reagan’s SUV directly as it moved down the road. There was no time to brake or swerve out of the way. The impact caused severe damage to the vehicle and left the 35-year-old driver with critical injuries before her SUV came to a stop along the shoulder.
Passersby called emergency dispatchers right away, bringing state troopers and local rescue crews to the scene within minutes. Emergency responders from the Sandy Creek Joint Fire District rushed onto the highway to help. Despite their quick arrival, Reagan died from her injuries before she could be transported to a hospital.
The Stark County Coroner’s Office officially pronounced the Minerva resident dead at the crash site. Troopers shut down part of U.S. 30 to secure the area and protect first responders while they worked. The sudden closure created delays along the highway while crews began gathering facts about the crash.
News of Reagan’s death spread quickly back home in Minerva, leaving neighbors and friends in shock. People across the small town spent Sunday trying to digest how a routine weekend drive turned into a fatal accident. Those who knew the 35-year-old recalled a bright presence whose life was cut short without any warning.
State workers with the Ohio Department of Transportation arrived at the crash site to direct traffic around the scene. Crew members from Rocky’s Towing and Recovery later hauled the crushed Jeep Wagoneer away from the highway median. Workers also cleared wood and broken vehicle parts from the roadway so traffic could move safely again.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is heading up the formal investigation into the incident. Investigators are looking at weather conditions, soil stability, and the health of the tree to understand why it fell into traffic. Troopers have not released further details as they continue pulling together their final crash report.
