Lanessa Bradford was fifty years old when her life came to an abrupt end at a local park in Baton Rouge. What started as a regular day took a dark turn after an argument broke out in broad daylight. She never made it back home from that park.
Police say Bradford was at Independence Community Park on Independence Boulevard with fifty-year-old Tyronne Brazille. The two knew each other and were sitting together when things turned hostile. Words were exchanged between them right there on park grounds.
During that disagreement, Brazille allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Bradford. The gunfire ended the argument instantly, leaving Bradford fatally wounded in the vehicle. Instead of calling for help or staying at the scene, Brazille took off.
He pulled out of the park and hit the highway with Bradford in the passenger seat. Over the next several hours, he drove through state after state, keeping her body inside the car while putting hundreds of miles between himself and Baton Rouge.
The long drive came to an unexpected halt in Memphis, Tennessee. Patrol officers pulled the vehicle over on Thursday for a simple traffic violation. They had no idea what was waiting for them when they walked up to the passenger window.
Officers found Bradford slumped over in the passenger seat with a gunshot wound. First responders confirmed she was dead right there at the scene. Memphis police immediately took Brazille into custody on the roadside.
Back in Louisiana, Baton Rouge homicide detectives connected the dots and pieced the timeline together. Brazille is now sitting in a Memphis jail cell as a fugitive, waiting for officers to extradite him back to Baton Rouge to face murder charges.
For Bradford’s family and friends, the shock is still fresh as they mourn her loss. A quiet afternoon at a neighborhood park ended in a sudden act of violence that left an entire community searching for answers.
