A Saturday afternoon shooting at a local apartment complex claimed the life of a 22-year-old man and left four other people injured. The violence broke out after an ongoing neighborhood feud spiraled out of control.

Police got the call around 4:43 p.m. on August 29, 2026, heading out to the Renaissance Gateway Apartments off North Ardenwood Drive. When officers arrived on the scene, they found four people lying on the ground with bullet wounds.

Paramedics rushed the victims to a nearby hospital right away. Doctors tried to save Latrell Trumble, but his injuries were just too severe. He was pronounced dead shortly after getting to the emergency room.

The three other adult victims who were rushed from the scene are recovering in the hospital. Medical staff expect all three of them to survive their injuries.

Detectives later learned that a 14-year-old kid was also caught in the crossfire during the shooting. A family member loaded the teen into a car and drove straight to the hospital for treatment.

Investigators say this whole incident started with a heated dispute the night before. Officers had already responded to several calls on Friday night for verbal fights and physical scuffles between two rival groups.

The Baton Rouge Police Department is still working the case and following up on leads. As of now, police have not publicly named any official suspects or made any arrests in connection with the fatal shooting.
