Aaden Owen Elswick was nineteen years old and had his whole working life stretched out right in front of him. That all stopped late Friday night on a dark patch of pavement in West Columbus.

Elswick lived in nearby Hilliard after graduating from East Knox High School. He had already settled into a steady job at Prestress Services Industries, building a routine that friends and family describe as focused and dependable.

The crash happened just after 11 p.m. on August 28. Elswick was riding through the intersection of Roberts Road and Potts Place when another driver attempted a sudden left-hand turn across oncoming traffic.

A westbound sedan cut directly into the path of an oncoming SUV. The two vehicles slammed together in the middle of the roadway, creating a crunch of metal heard by nearby neighbors.

The blow of the collision was violent enough to throw Elswick entirely out of the vehicle. He landed on the asphalt with critical injuries before paramedics could reach the scene.
Medics rushed Elswick to Riverside Methodist Hospital while emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage. Doctors tried to save him, but his injuries were too severe, and he died shortly after arrival.

Two other people involved in the two-car collision were also hurt. Emergency responders transported them to local hospitals for treatment, though officials have not released their current conditions.

News of Elswick’s death traveled fast through his former school halls and his workplace. Those who knew him describe a young man who showed up, did his job, and stayed out of trouble.

Columbus police crash investigators spent hours at the scene mapping tire marks and vehicle positions. The investigation into the crash remains open as local authorities review the full details of what happened.
