Thursday morning commute turned tragic when a 31-year-old Missouri man lost his life in a severe three-vehicle collision at a rural intersection. Austin Haake died at the scene following the chain-reaction crash on August 27, 2026. Local police officers worked for hours to clear the debris and investigate the site.
The fatal event unfolded right around 11:15 a.m. at the intersection of North Portsmouth Road and East Washington Road. Austin was driving southbound along the rural stretch in a white Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Investigators stated that the white pickup truck failed to stop at the posted stop sign at the intersection. As the Ford entered the cross street, a westbound semi-truck hauling a full trailer struck the pickup directly.
The force of the initial hit pushed the pickup into incoming traffic. An eastbound cement mixer traveling through the area then collided with the vehicle in a secondary impact.
Emergency responders arrived shortly after witnesses called in the violent wreck. Austin suffered fatal physical injuries from the double impact, and medical personnel pronounced him dead right on the scene.
Friends and family are mourning the sudden loss of a young man who meant the world to his home community. Those close to him remember a kind person whose presence brought comfort and joy to everyday moments.
Police officers continue to examine the exact factors that led to the missed stop sign. For now, a grieving family is left gathering memories and photos of a life cut far too short.
