Kelly Cross Young, 43, died Monday night after the Lincoln Town Car she was driving crossed the center line on N.C. Highway 8 in Davidson County and collided head-on with a red Honda Civic. Her 8-year-old daughter was in the front passenger seat and was seriously injured.

Bowden was ejected from the Honda during the crash. Emergency crews found him at the scene, where he was pronounced dead.

Young survived the initial collision but suffered fatal injuries. She was placed in the back of an EMS unit but died there while emergency crews were responding to the crash.

Her daughter was taken to a hospital for treatment after suffering serious injuries. She was the only person identified in the crash as surviving with serious injuries.

Troopers said no one in either vehicle was wearing a seatbelt. Investigators also believe alcohol may have played a role in Young’s driving before the crash.

The circumstances surrounding the collision are still being investigated. Authorities are working to establish exactly why the Lincoln crossed the center line and what happened in the moments before the two vehicles struck each other.
