Mark Rose was driving along State Route 32 in New Scotland on Saturday evening when a head-on collision changed everything. The 74-year-old Westerlo man was killed when his Subaru collided with an Acura near Tarrytown Road, according to investigators.
The crash was reported shortly after 6 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 32 and Tarrytown Road. Deputies from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene and found two vehicles heavily damaged after the violent impact.

Rose was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 63-year-old Linda Rose, was seriously hurt and rushed to Albany Medical Center Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
The other vehicle was an Acura driven by 24-year-old Anthony Depoalo of Schenectady. Depoalo was not hurt. His passenger, 26-year-old Colin Dineen, suffered minor injuries and was among those affected by the crash.
The crash has left investigators with several questions about what happened just before the vehicles met. Deputies are examining the circumstances surrounding the collision as they work to establish how the Acura and Subaru ended up in a head-on crash on Route 32.
There was no immediate indication that charges had been filed against the Acura driver. The sheriff’s office continued its investigation, while authorities asked anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact investigators with information that could help clarify what happened.
For the Rose family, the most painful part is already clear. Mark is gone, while Linda remains in critical condition. The other people involved survived, but the crash has left one family dealing with a death and a serious injury at the same time.
Investigators are still working to establish the complete sequence of events. Until that work is finished, the crash remains under investigation. What is known is that a Saturday evening drive on State Route 32 ended with one person dead, one critically injured and two others hurt.
