Ozzie Bradley was driving through Geneva County on Wednesday evening when his journey came to a sudden end at a quiet local intersection. The 55-year-old Enterprise resident was traveling through the city limits of Slocomb around 5:53 p.m. when his vehicle suddenly ran off the road near Highway 104 and Geneva County Road 91. The car veered off the asphalt and crashed head-on into a tree.
The force of the impact threw Bradley directly out of the vehicle. Nearby witnesses and drivers alerted 911 immediately, prompting emergency dispatchers to send local police and rescue squads straight to the scene.
Emergency medical workers reached the crash site within minutes and rushed to check on Bradley. They quickly determined that he suffered fatal injuries during the crash and could not be revived.
Geneva County Coroner Donny Adkinson arrived at the scene shortly after the emergency teams. He officially pronounced Bradley dead on site. The sudden tragedy has left family and friends in nearby Enterprise grieving a sudden loss on a routine weekday evening.
Slocomb sits in southeastern Alabama, about 25 miles from Dothan and just north of the Florida state line. The rural intersection where the accident occurred connects two major county routes that local residents rely on every day.
Multiple local and state agencies responded to manage the crash site. Officers with the Slocomb Police Department and deputies from the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office blocked off traffic, while Slocomb Fire and Rescue workers cleared debris from the roadway. State troopers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency also arrived to assist with the scene.
State troopers are leading the investigation to figure out why Bradley’s car left the road. Officials noted that no other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no additional injuries were reported.
