Yolanda Chaytor was thirty years old and raising three children in Chicago. On a quiet Sunday morning, her life came to a sudden end on a West Side pavement. Now her young kids are growing up without a mother because a simple exchange of words turned deadly.
It happened early Sunday along the 3800 block of West Harrison Street. The block sits right in the Homan Square neighborhood. What started as a verbal disagreement quickly spiraled out of control. Two people were standing on the street talking, but the conversation turned hostile within moments.
That was when the male individual pulled out a gun to end the dispute. Instead of walking away, he pulled the trigger and fired. Chaytor collapsed on the sidewalk before anyone nearby could step in to help.
First responders loaded Chaytor into an ambulance and drove fast toward Stroger Hospital. Paramedics worked on her during the ride, trying to keep her alive. Emergency room doctors took over as soon as she arrived, but the damage was too severe. She died shortly after arriving at the trauma center.
