It was supposed to be a simple late-night ride through Boone County, but early Monday morning ended in a terrible tragedy for a local family. Troy Cherry, a 52-year-old resident of Walton, Kentucky, lost his life after his motorcycle slammed into a utility pole along a busy stretch of road in Florence.

The crash happened right around 1:37 a.m. on Burlington Pike, near the intersection of Cavalier Boulevard. According to local police officers who arrived at the scene, Cherry was riding down the road when he suddenly lost control of his bike. The motorcycle drifted off the right side of the pavement and crashed straight into the wooden pole.

Emergency crews from Florence EMS got to the scene within minutes to help Cherry. Paramedics worked quickly to stabilize him on the side of the road before loading him into an ambulance. They rushed him across state lines to the University of Cincinnati Hospital, hoping doctors there could save his life.

Despite all the efforts of the medical team in the emergency room, Cherry succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. News of his passing hit his hometown of Walton hard, leaving neighbors and loved ones grieving the sudden loss of a 52-year-old community member.

Florence police officers shut down the area around Burlington Pike for several hours overnight to piece together what happened. Crash reconstruction teams gathered evidence from the road, checking tire marks and the position of the damaged motorcycle against the pole to figure out why Cherry went off course.

As of right now, authorities haven’t released any official reason as to why Cherry lost control of his bike on that quiet stretch of road. Investigators did mention that alcohol might have played a role in the crash, but they emphasized that toxicology reports and final determinations on impairment are still pending.

The investigation into the crash remains wide open as officers work through all the details. Local police are asking anyone who might have been driving down Burlington Pike around 1:30 Monday morning or who saw anything unusual to call the Florence Police Department with information.
