Geoffrey Fuller was only 28 years old when a quiet Sunday evening ride through Bennington County took a tragic turn. Fuller, a resident of nearby Danby, was riding his motorcycle along Morse Hill Road in Dorset when he lost control and went off the road. By the time emergency crews arrived, there was nothing they could do to save him.

The crash happened around 7 p.m. near the intersection of Morse Hill Road and Kelleher Road. State troopers received the emergency call and dispatched teams straight to the rural stretch of highway. Local firefighters from the Dorset Fire Department and medics from Northshire Rescue rushed to the scene alongside the troopers.

When first responders got to the site, they found the motorcycle lying off the edge of the roadway near a tree line. Fuller was lying nearby, completely unresponsive. Medical personnel worked immediately to evaluate him and render aid, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead right there at the scene.

Investigators say Fuller was heading east on Morse Hill Road just before the crash took place. As he approached a bend in the asphalt, he missed the turn and drifted off the right side of the pavement. The bike slammed into a tree, throwing Fuller from the motorcycle.

For the small town of Danby and the surrounding communities, the news of Fuller’s death hit hard. Friends and neighbors in rural Vermont know how fast a routine weekend drive can turn into a nightmare. Losing someone at 28 leaves a massive hole in a small community where everybody knows everybody.

Responders who worked the scene felt the weight of the evening as well. Rural volunteer firefighters and local EMTs are often the first on the ground at violent crash sites, dealing with tough outcomes in their own backyards. The crash served as a solemn reminder of how unforgiving local backroads can be when a turn catches a rider off guard.

Vermont State Police are still trying to piece together every detail of what happened before the motorcycle left the road. Troopers out of the Shaftsbury Barracks are asking anyone who was driving on Morse Hill Road around 7 p.m. Sunday to contact them at 802-442-5421 if they saw anything.
