Bill Dundee, the legendary wrestling figure known to generations of fans as “Superstar,” died early Sunday morning at age 82. His son, Jamie Dundee, announced the death online, noting his father passed away around 3:30 a.m. The family did not publicly disclose an official cause of death.

The news came right after a public honor for the veteran performer. Just one day before his passing, Memphis Wrestling aired a September 5 episode that featured a tribute to Dundee. Current roster members gathered on camera to greet the longtime wrestler and acknowledge his decades of influence on the local ring scene.

Health issues had caught up with Dundee in recent years. Jamie revealed in past public statements that his father had been diagnosed with dementia. Despite the illness, Dundee remained a respected figure across the southern wrestling circuit until his final days.

Dundee began his life far away from the American heartland. Born in Scotland and raised in Australia, he spent time as a circus trapeze artist at age 16 before starting his professional wrestling career in 1962. He moved to the United States in 1974 and quickly carved out a permanent home in the Memphis territory.

Once in Tennessee, Dundee built a decades-long rivalry and partnership with Jerry “The King” Lawler. The two men packed venues like the Mid-South Coliseum, alternating between popular tag team partners and bitter opponents in matches that drew huge crowds every Monday night.

Dundee also worked as a promoter and booker behind the scenes in Memphis, Louisiana, and Georgia. He helped write storylines, manage television cards, and develop young talent. Later in his career, he worked for Jim Crockett Promotions, Central States Wrestling, Florida Championship Wrestling, and WCW, where he managed Lord Steven Regal under the ring name Sir William.

Inducted into the Memphis Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2017, Dundee continued stepping into the ring well into his seventies. His final official match took place in 2019, putting an end to a 57-year run in the business.
