Eleven-year-old Emmet Sauers was inside his house on Friday night when a pickup truck swerved off the road and smashed into the building. He died right there at the scene before paramedics could save him.
The wreck happened around 11:50 p.m. on State Route 302, which locals call Madison Avenue. It was a quiet night in Wayne County until the white 2007 Ford F-250 left the pavement on the eastern side of the road.

State troopers got the call about a terrible crash with people trapped inside the home. Emergency workers from Wooster Fire and EMS rushed over, but there was nothing they could do for young Emmet once they got inside.
Neighbors on Madison Avenue woke up to flashing red lights and the sound of sirens filling the street. The heavy truck had plowed straight into the residential structure, leaving heavy damage across the property.
The driver of the truck was identified as 18-year-old Karas M. Wedge from Seville, Ohio. She walked away from the violent impact with only minor injuries and went by ambulance to Wooster Community Hospital.
It took a massive effort to clear the scene that night. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, police officers, fire crews, AEP power workers, the coroner, and Rigz Towing all stayed on location past midnight to secure the site. The American Red Cross also showed up to help the family dealing with the sudden disaster.
Troopers from the Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are heading up the ongoing investigation. They are trying to figure out why the truck veered off the road in the first place, and no charges have been announced yet as they collect evidence.
