An evening drive through southern Oregon turned fatal when a local man lost control on a winding rural road.
Emergency crews answered a 911 call shortly before 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, reporting a severe crash in Douglas County.

Responders arrived at the 7000-block of Tiller Trail Highway, located just outside the small town of Canyonville.
On the shoulder of the road, deputies found a damaged 1986 Ford F-150 pickup that had run off the pavement and collided with a tree.
The driver and sole occupant was identified as 56-year-old Derek Edward Knuuttila from nearby Roseburg.
Paramedics checked the vehicle immediately, but Knuuttila died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.
Investigators later noted that alcohol is suspected as a primary contributing factor as they continue looking into what triggered the wreck.
