Calvert Hall College High School is dealing with a heavy loss this week. Jeff Nattans, a standout leader, devoted alumnus, and current Chair of the school’s Board of Trustees, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The news hit the Towson campus hard. For decades, Nattans was a familiar face and a steady hand behind the scenes, working to keep the institution strong.
Nattans was a Calvert Hall guy through and through. He graduated in the Class of 1985 after making a huge name for himself on the field and on the court. He was a rare two-sport star in soccer and basketball, known for a relentless work ethic and quiet leadership. Teachers and teammates back then saw someone who showed up early, stayed late, and carried himself with real humility. Those traits stayed with him for the rest of his life.

After high school, Nattans took his talent down the road to Loyola University Maryland. He dominated in the classroom, earning an accounting degree summa cum laude. He also started four years on the soccer team and served as co-captain of the basketball team during his senior year. By 1989, he earned the Northeast Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year award along with an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
His athletic drive led him straight into professional sports. Nattans played starter minutes for the Maryland Bays pro soccer club, helping lead the team to a national championship in 1990. His impact on local soccer was so big that he was inducted into the Maryland Soccer Hall of Fame in 2008. Friends who played alongside him said he never bragged about his rings or titles. He was always focused on the team.
Nattans brought that same drive into the business world. He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1996 and built a strong career in finance. Over the years, he held senior executive roles at major firms including Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, Legg Mason, Franklin Templeton, Sagamore Ventures, and Black Diamond Financial. Colleagues respected him for his sharp mind and straightforward integrity.
Despite a demanding career, Nattans gave back to the community constantly. He served on the Board of Trustees at Loyola University Maryland and worked closely with Catholic Charities of Baltimore. He also sat on the Investment Committee for the Knott Scholarship Funds to help local students afford high-quality schooling. His heart remained closest to Calvert Hall, where he stepped up as Chair of the Board of Trustees.
Calvert Hall President Brother John Kane remembered Nattans as a man who lived out the school’s mission every day. Kane noted that Nattans led the board with genuine wisdom, always putting the students and the school’s brotherhood first. For Kane and the entire staff, Nattans was more than a trustee; he was a trusted friend whose leadership leaves a lasting mark.
At home, Nattans was centered on his family above everything else. He is survived by his wife Karen and their son Spencer, a 2019 Calvert Hall graduate. He also leaves behind his father, retired Brig. Gen. Joe Nattans Sr., his mother Linda, his stepmother Donna, and his brothers Joe Jr. and John. As the school family waits for funeral details, the campus remains quiet, honoring a leader who gave back to the place where he started.
